PROCEDURES FOR DEALING WITH FOREIGN PHARMACIES

SAMPLE ORDER FORM

The Sample Order Form is a guide to providing Mexican Pharmacies and appears to present the information detailed in the FDA statement which will presumably provide U.S. Customs with the necessary information to having your pharmaceutical products delivered safely. Your Order Form should contain the following information:

1. Your Name, Address, City, State, Zip & Country (clearly printed)
2. Your Home Phone & Fax number
3. State the Name of each pharmaceutical product you are ordering
4. State the Quantity of each pharmaceutical product you are ordering (You should never order more than a 90-day supply)
5. State the intended use of the pharmaceutical product. You should specifically certify that the products are For Your Own Personal Use Only; (As a general matter, the selling or giving away drugs is illegal; you should however contact a qualified lawyer to obtain appropriate legal counseling and information on this matter)
6. Provides the name and address of the doctor licensed in the U.S. responsible for your treatment with the product, or provide some evidence that the product is for the continuation of a treatment begun in a foreign country.
 

SOME USEFUL TIPS

Useful tips and insights that we have gathered from a number of diverse sources that have dealt with foreign pharmacies are as follows:

1. To expedite your order, give the Generic Name of the pharmaceutical product whenever possible. For a useful listing of generic names of pharmaceutical products go to: www.rxlist.com or www.healthtouch.com
2. Though not necessarily required, fax a copy of your prescription if you have one.
3. It was the consensus that you should not order more than a 90-day supply of any pharmaceutical product - requesting more than a 90-day supply could suggest that you are not intending to use the product for your own personal use.
4. It was strongly recommended that you pay the extra money for replacement insurance when offered and available.
5. Do not have your order sent Priority or Express mail. (Disregard this admonition if you are ordering from Mexico).
6. Ask the pharmacy to ship your order in discreetly labeled packages without obvious pharmaceutical references. This is important to minimize the possibility of theft as your package works its way through the postal system.
7. Try not to wait until the last minute to purchase your pharmaceutical product. For example, receipts of orders placed with Asian pharmacies have reportedly taken a few weeks.
8. Although pharmaceutical products are many times sold by foreign pharmacies without presenting a prescription, obtaining the approval of a qualified Physician for any pharmaceutical product that you may intend to use is obviously prudent and is highly recommended.
 

ADDITIONAL NOTES ABOUT DEALING WITH INTERNATIONAL PHARMACIES

There are only a small percentage of foreign pharmacies in the world that will sell Analgesic pain medicines like valtrex, Percodan, etc. Most of these pharmacies are primarily listed in "The Mexican Pharmacies Guide" and are quite rare. Anabolic Steroids and most other pharmaceutical products are reportedly available from the pharmacies on this list without prescription.

Before ordering any product, it is important to understand that the foreign pharmacies you will be contacting do not necessarily function like or offer the same services you might expect from a pharmacy in the United States. Many of the foreign pharmacies listed in the Guide may not have English translators readily available for all of your email questions or concerns

Web users often tend to be impatient, wanting immediate replies to their Emails. From discussions with many of our sources who have dealt with foreign pharmacies we have obtained the following valuable advice: Please save yourself any undue anxiety at the slower pace of the foreign pharmacies and their sometimes idiosyncratic requirements for ordering product. Remember these pharmacies are not located in the USA and don't always operate with the same efficiency and speed. Instead, be grateful that these alternatives even exist and are now more accessible by telephone and the Internet.

Once you establish a relationship with the foreign pharmacy of your choice, ordering should progress smoothly thereafter. In relation to the MEXICAN PHARMACIES, whether you converse in the native language or not, make sure you speak with the individual identified as the "Contact" for the given pharmacy listed in the Guide. Other clerks working in the same pharmacy may not even be aware of the fact that the pharmacy is conducting an international mail order business via the Internet.

MEXICO

The following Guide is designed to provide all information needed for legally buying medicines and drugs from Pharmacies in MEXICO. This includes information for addresses in other Border towns and Pedestrian/ Vehicle traffic entering Tijuana by way of the San Ysidro Border and for Residents not living in close proximity to Mexico who require Shipping.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER

Tijuana, a thriving border town adjacent to San Diego, California is situated in the part of Mexico known as Baja California (B.C). Millions of Americans cross the border annually to purchase a wide variety of inexpensive Mexican products including handicrafts, pottery, furniture, liquor, cosmetics, etc. There is also however, a constant flow of Americans entering Mexico for the sole purpose of replenishing their supplies of medicines and drugs from the thousands of Pharmacies scattered throughout the city. A wide variety of brand name and generic painkillers, diet pills, sedatives, antibiotics, geriatrics, etc. are legally available without prescription. Most are sold at considerable discounts. You might also be pleasantly surprised to find that because of the ongoing traffic of Americans, Mexican pharmacists carry most drugs and are also well informed of the generic substitutes for U.S. name brands.

The Pharmacies themselves have a plentiful array of merchandise ranging from medicines and vitamins to French perfumes, toiletries and cosmetics like Chanel, Lancome, etc. "Ask and ye shall receive" is good practical advice in Tijuana. Four Pharmacies may not have what you want but the fifth probably will. Regulations vary from shop to shop and under the right circumstances - anything goes. One Pharmacy ships - another cannot. This same discrepancy exists in the area of price. Prices not only differ from one drug store to another but from one day to another -- leaving room for negotiation. Though a consumer may get further discounts by paying with Money Orders or Cash, getting the price hammered down is still possible on telephone orders. Make it clear that you will order from them again, if their prices are good.

FURTHER NOTES

Some of the generics are manufactured by Mexican pharmaceutical companies, making them cheaper to purchase. It would be remiss not to mention that the FDA is not acquainted with, and does not oversee procedures of any Mexican pharmaceutical companies. These companies are not required by law to meet the standards of American pharmaceutical companies though this does not indicate that they do not. The Drug stores listed have been selling these same pharmaceutical products to both Mexicans and Americans for years but one should be aware of this fact. If this is a concern, you might want to go with only American name brands or medicines that have been produced in countries like Great Britain, Canada, etc.

GETTING THERE

From wherever you are, you need to find your way to the 405 SAN DIEGO Freeway South or the 5 South in Southern California. The 405 South merges automatically with the 5 South. Take either of these Freeways and just keep driving until you see a big sign that reads, "MEXICO". The name of this border crossing is called San Ysidro. Exit at the last turnoff before the International Border to park and walk in, or to obtain Mexican Insurance for the day, if you are driving in. Insurance can also be bought through AAA before beginning the trip.Car insurance in the U.S. generally does not include coverage in Mexico. If entering on foot, you do not need a cab to get to any of these Pharmacies but walking, especially in the Mexican heat can be too strenuous for older people. Trolleys go to the San Ysidro border every 15 minutes from downtown San Diego.

ORDERING BY TELEPHONE

The Pharmacies that ship to the USA are designated with (*). When you call to place your order,the Pharmacy will explain what procedures to follow. Ask for the contact listed -- even if you speak fluent Spanish. Not everyone who works in the Mexican pharmacies has been told about this Internet connection. Though most do already, I would suggest having them ship with private Couriers like UPS, FED-EX, DHL, etc., rather than using the Mexican mail.
